PURPOSE:
Suppression of Third Harmonics in the Network.
APPLICATION:
Single Phase Non-linear Loads that are connected between phase and neutral are generating third harmonic and multiple of it. Being third and ninth harmonic in phase with each other, they arithmetically add up in the Neutral Wire, causing overloading.

Wherever Neutral Current is extremely high, Series Reactor along with Shunt Reactors needs to be used. The unit must be sized on the basis of the Line Current and the Neutral Current.If Series Reactors cannot be installed, the filter has to be sized atleast 25% of the distributing Transformer for efficient operation.
